Theatre Hayling Herald
Grow your stage skills
By James Wood, treasurer of
HIADS Station Theatre
THIS spring, Station Theatre is throwing open its doors to anyone who
has ever wondered what it takes to step on stage, or step up behind the
scenes.
Our new Theatre Skills Workshops have been running across Saturday
and Sunday mornings in February and March, covering everything from
acting technique to directing, auditions to production. Whether you’re a
complete beginner curious about treading the boards, or an experienced
performer looking to sharpen your craft, there’s still time to join in.
HIADS has nearly 80 years of supporting Hayling’s independent theatre
tradition, and these workshops are our way of nurturing the next generation of talent. Our experienced members share practical skills in a supportive, fun, hands-on environment, right here in our well-equipped theatre.
The series kicked off in February with sessions on Auditions and Casting,
Character and Physicality, and Directing Actors. Three more sessions remain – Intention & Dialogue on Sunday, March 8th, Running a Production
on Saturday, March 14th, and Stagecraft & Voice on Sunday, March 22nd.
All sessions run from 10am to midday, and you can attend one, two, or all
three.
The workshops lead into something special, Up and Coming, our talent
evening on Saturday, March 28th. Participants will form small companies,
each with a new director and cast, to rehearse and perform short plays in a
single showcase event, supported by an experienced member of the theatre.
It’s a safe, supportive first step for those who’ve always wanted to direct or
take on a meatier role on stage.
For audiences, it’s a chance to see emerging talent and perhaps spot
someone you’ll be watching on our stage for years to come.
HIADS members attend workshops for just £5 per session (or £12 for
all remaining three). Not a member? Join for £20 for the whole year and
unlock member pricing for these workshops and everything else we offer. Non-member tickets are available at £15 per session, and all students
attend free.
Book now at stationtheatre.co.uk. Up and Coming will be open to the
public, with tickets available soon stationtheatre.co.uk
