Hayling Herald Community update
Hayling Holiday Lunches
By Sarah Smith on behalf of the Hayling Holiday
Lunches
WE are collecting now for the Easter holiday
delivery and then for five deliveries in the summer
holidays.
We are slowly building up our supplies thanks to
our regular donors – Beach Babes WI, St Patrick’s
and St Mary’s churches, our own Baptists as well as
individuals and those who leave in our donation box
at the Co-op.
We are grateful to Mandy and Matt at Ruby’s tea
rooms who have collected for us for some time and
wish them well in their future plans. We are hoping
that the new owner will also collect and will enquire
as soon as they re-open, so if you are used to donating
there please ask first.
We are collecting all the usual tinned food items and
pasta, sauces, rice, biscuits. All we ask is that they are
in date. We could not do this without the storeroom
offered to us by the URC as we are dealing with large
quantities of tins for each delivery. We supplement the
donations with visits to the cash and carry so we are
also grateful for the financial support we receive.
We are filling bags in readiness for delivery by our
10 delivery teams at the beginning of the Easter school
holidays. All in all, the support we give our Holiday
Lunches families could not be provided without this
generous community.
Fundraising Support Group for Rowans Hospice
By Barbara Beck
THE new year did not treat
the Hayling Fundraising
Support Group well for the
first coffee morning of the
year, as the powerful east
wind meant that the village
was unusually quiet, so we
were very grateful to the
brave friends who came
along.
We managed to raise a
total of £29! The day was
saved, however, as we
received an anonymous
donation of £23.84 and one
of £16.55 from the Knitting
Ladies.
We are lucky enough to
be invited to have a stall
at the Bulldog Society Fair
16
on March 7th and also in
March we will have a coffee
morning on Saturday 21st
at the URC Small Hall in
Mengham, starting at 10am,
we look forward to seeing
you on those occasions.
We all know that hospices are finding it difficult to
keep all their beds open
because of the high running
costs and some are even
faced with closure.
So far Rowans has struggled on and with your help
we will survive. We are a
very small team and would
love some younger people to
join us in our endeavours.
Why not come and see us
in action?
