Academy
THE Coastal Rowing Academy
hosted its first rowing camp with
18 representatives from across the
3 Harbours Rowing Network.
Peter Haining, Mike Gilbert and
Annabel Parker worked with the
delegates to understand how to populate coastal quads, using coaching,
training, ergs (rowing machines)
and boats on the water to test and
explore positions, power and balance.
Meanwhile the Great River Race,
pictured above, was another amazing event!
There were rowing boats from
Langstone, Hayling, Bosham, Itchenor, Dell Quay, Chichester Yacht
Club, Tudor and Eastney.
The Coastal Rowing Academy
Longboat completed the course in 3
hours 21 minutes.
3 Harbours Rowing is growing
again, with not only Hayling Island
Sailing Club about to receive their
new boat, but Portsmouth Sailing
Club now interested in joining the
21 clubs in the local network.
HISC have been continuing to
learn with the academy ahead of
their boat arriving – over 25 people
have now been introduced to longboat rowing.
Go Coastal is now in the middle of its final courses of the 2026
Sports England funded project.
By the end of this summer over 60
people will have been introduced to
coastal rowing though the academy.

The Harbourside Centre held the
second Third Thursday talk, with
the Seal Alliance webinar – Seal
Masterclass – looking at seal biology
and the challenges facing our local
seal population.
While Chichester Harbour seals
are thriving, disturbance from humans approaching too close is still
the greatest threat, the advice – stay
at least 200 metres away!
The next event is October 15th on
Chichester Harbour oysters.
The project focuses on how to reseed the harbour with native oysters
– why, how and the benefits.
