Theatre Hayling Herald
Setting the stage for a
joyful winter of shows
By James Wood
OUR stage is quiet at the Station
Theatre as October begins, but the
theatre certainly is not.
Rehearsals are in full swing, and
we have a great deal to look forward
to before the year is out.
From October 23rd to 31st,
Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic
Society presents Collaboration by
Ronald Harwood, the Oscar-winning writer of The Pianist and The
Dresser Germany, 1931.
Celebrated composer Richard
Strauss and the brilliant Austrian
writer Stefan Zweig begin work on
a glorious new opera, but Zweig
is Jewish and the Nazis are on the
march, and Strauss is soon forced
into an impossible bargain.
By turns funny, tender and dev-
astating, it is a true story about art,
friendship and conscience in the
darkest of times. Thursday, Friday
and Saturday evenings at 7.30pm,
tickets £14 (early Bird £12).
Our afternoon films continue with
Now You See Me on Friday, October
16th, The Grand Budapest Hotel on
Friday, November 13th and Quartet
on Friday, December 11th, all at
2.30pm. Tickets £6 (front three rows
£4.50).
On Sunday 13th December our
family Christmas show returns with
The Doorway to Christmas, written
by our member James Wood, writer
of our 2025 pantomime Cinderella.
Doors open at 2pm for half an
hour in Grandpa’s Hideaway with
Christmas drinks and snacks
included, letters to Santa to write
and characters to meet, before the
doorway opens for a 30 minute
show in which one girl finds a world
where Christmas has gone chaotically wrong.
It’s perfect for children aged four
and up. Grown ups are allowed too,
if they behave. Tickets are on sale
now, £10 adults and £8 children.
Our pantomime Mother Goose,
written by Alan P Frayn, runs from
January 15th to 23rd, Fridays at
7.30pm and Saturdays and Sunday
at 3pm. Tickets are on sale now, £16
adults and £12 under 16s.
A relaxed, British Sign Language-interpreted performance is
planned. Full details are available
at stationtheatre.co.uk, or contact
the box office on 07518 257008 or
