Islander releases debut album at 78!
A 78-YEAR-OLD grandfather has released his debut pop album.
Roy Slyfield, a retired Maclaren engineer, has been performing all his life but had
never released a record. His dream has finally come true and he has released About
Time 2 online after an intense recording period.
The Hayling Men’s Shed member said: ‘I didn’t think I would ever get the album
finished at times. I always had a lot of belief in my songs.’
Roy started playing guitar at school with a few friends. He formed a group which
eventually evolved into a seven-piece soul band called Image based in Portsmouth.
They toured the country, including Portsmouth Guildhall and the once-famous
Tricorn Club.
He added: ‘Eventually I went back to my old job as an engineer. It was about this
time that I started writing and recording my songs. As time and technology progressed I started re-recording them and over time this happened several times and
about 10 years ago I found a way of recording my songs that I was happy with, and it
has taken until now to get the album finished. Life got in the way!
‘It was very surreal when I pressed the button on the computer to send them out
into the big wide world.’
Roy records under his stage name Roy McNeill.
His Shedder friends are rightly proud of him. Together with his pal Tony George,
he gives guitar lessons to other members which are very popular. About Time 2 is
Roy Slyfield relaxing at home with his guitar
now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and You Tube.
