Hayling Herald Community update
Community Christmas lunch
By Maggie Shelton
BACK again for another year, Hayling Community Christmas aims to banish loneliness
and social isolation in our community on
Christmas Day.
If you are facing the day alone or are a couple
where one is the caregiver, then this event is for
you.
We will provide a day full of conversation,
laughter and warmth along with a traditional
three-course lunch, a present from Santa, free
tombola, and entertainment. And if you need
transport in order to attend our event, we can
provide that too.
Without the continuous support and incredible
generosity of our community, this event would
not be able to run year after year. It is your support, both financial and through manpower, that
enables us to keep it going.
This is where we need your help:
n Volunteers are needed during the run up to
Christmas Day to circulate posters, contact local
businesses and to decorate the hall on Christmas
Eve.
n We need drivers with cars suitable for elderly
passengers to ferry our guests back and forth on
the day.
n On Christmas Day we need a small army to
host the tables, help in the kitchen and the hall. It
is busy and chaotic at times, but it is also one of
the most rewarding ways to spend your Christmas Day.
The commitment for Christmas Day is 11.30
– 4pm with lunch provided. We would welcome
prizes for the tombola and we have donation
points to make life easier. The Community
Centre, West Town (please mention that your
donation is for the Community Christmas lunch
when dropping off),
The Terracotta Pot Shop at Eastoke Corner and
Hayling Property in Mengham. New this year,
Wimbourne Care Home, Selsmore Road has also
joined the list.
A Go Fund Me page is currently in the making.
This is for donations to cover everything needed
from serviettes to stuffing. Details will be posted
in the November edition and on facebook.
For most people Christmas Day is a happy time
for sharing with family and friends, not a time
for relying on the TV for solace.
With your help and support we can change the
outlook and experience of those in our community facing Christmas Day alone.
Please join us at the United Reform Church in
Mengham from midday – 3.30pm. Places must
be booked. Please ring Maggie on 07960 962059.
The closing date is December 18th.
