Hayling Herald Community update
Hayling Island Men’s Shed
By Nik Nickerson from Men’s Shed
ALL the summer heatwaves are
finally over. What we can be certain
of now is that winter is coming – by
all accounts it’s going to be fierce
and wet.
If we humans are going to find it a
tough winter think what the birds and
other small creatures will have to go
through.
The Shed’s resident amateur ornithologist, Les, is encouraging the Men
of the Shed to make sure that no bird
has to sleep rough this winter. As a
consequence the Shed is turning out
bird boxes by the dozen. Different
sizes, different designs and different
colours.
To illustrate his concern Les has
built an up market bird house. We
chaps think of birds and their comfort
all the time.
The various sized openings to this
stylish residence will accommodate
access by many different sized birds.
Built in a Scandinavian style, this
wooden-framed building will provide
adequate shelter and it should also be
naturally warm.
It has a chimney but Les is leaving it
to the first human landlord to decide
whether or not to add a wood burner
or a heat pump.
If money and time is no obstacle the
landlord could add external window
shutters, should he or she choose.
If you would like to own this bird
house then you can acquire it for a
sensible donation.
Go to our website himensshed.org.
uk and navigate to the ‘items available’
page.
How to secure any item we advertise
is at the top of that page. If you wish
to acquire this bird house or just a
regular bird box, then just follow the
guide on this page.
Thank you, Les. The homeless of our
feathered community salute you. Give

Hayling Holiday Lunches
By Samantha White
THAT’S a wrap for Hayling Holiday Lunches
this summer!
Our final delivery of the summer holidays
has now been made, and what a summer it
has been.
Together, we have been able to support
more than 70 families across our community
with much-needed food parcels. We are so
grateful to everyone who has helped make
this possible — every donation, delivery,
parcel packed and act of kindness has made a
real difference.
We would also like to say a very special
thank you to David and Sarah Smith for
their incredible hard work, organisation,
fundraising and dedication over the past 10
years.
For a whole decade, David and Sarah
have poured their time, energy and hearts
into Hayling Holiday Lunches, helping to
make sure families in our community are
supported during the school holidays.
Their commitment has been truly amazing,
and we are incredibly grateful for everything
